The Prep tab is the starting point for everything. Fill it in once and all other tabs — Interview, Mock Interview, and Resume — will automatically use your details to personalise questions and feedback.

Upload Your Resume
Click Upload and select your resume file (
.pdf, .docx, or .txt). Skilfy parses it instantly — you'll see a preview below the button. The parsed resume is used to generate personalised questions that reference your actual experience. You can also upload extra supporting documents (certifications, project write-ups) using the Additional Documents uploader below the resume.2
Enter the Job Details
Fill in Company Name, Position, and Years of Experience. Then paste the full Job Description into the text area. These fields are used directly by the Interview (Chat) tab — it reads your role, experience, and job description from here to personalise every question and feedback response. The more detail you provide, the more targeted your coaching will be.

Generate Mock Questions
Click Generate Mock Question to get a targeted interview question based on the role and your resume. Each click generates a new question. Use this to get a feel for what to expect and mentally rehearse your answers before a live session.

Research the Company
Click Get Company Research to receive an AI-generated briefing on the company — culture, recent news, tech stack, and what interviewers typically focus on. Read this before your interview so you can give informed, context-aware answers.

Craft Your "Tell Me About Yourself"
Click Tell me about yourself to generate a polished, role-specific personal pitch based on your resume and the target position. Practise saying it aloud until it feels natural — it's almost always the very first question in an interview.
💡 Pro Tip: Always fill in the Prep tab before starting an Interview session — the AI reads your resume, role, experience, and job description from here to personalise every question and feedback. If you switch roles or companies, update the Prep tab first, then start a new session.

The Interview Chat reads your Position, Experience, Job Description, and Resume directly from the Prep tab. Make sure those are filled in first — the richer the context, the more personalised and targeted every question and feedback will be.

Choose a Topic & Model
Use the Topic dropdown to select Interview Practice, Technical Q&A, or General Chat. Then pick an AI model from the Model dropdown — try different models to find which style of feedback you prefer. You can also select a Custom Model you've built yourself.

Type or Speak Your Answer
Type in the text box and press ➤ Send, or click the 🎤 mic button to speak. While speaking, your words appear in real time. Click mic again to stop and auto-send. Use the ⛶ maximise button in the top-right for a distraction-free full-screen view.

Read & Apply the AI Feedback
Every response includes detailed feedback — what you did well, what was weak, suggested improvements, and a better model answer. Don't rush — read each response carefully, note patterns in your weak areas, and try rephrasing your answer immediately.

Clear & Repeat
Click the 🧹 Clear button to start a fresh conversation. Each session is automatically saved — you can review past sessions in the Interview Sessions tab. Aim for at least 10 questions per sitting to build momentum.
💡 Pro Tip: Use the Interview Practice topic with your own Custom Model set to your target company and role — you'll get questions that closely mirror what real interviewers ask for that position.

Upload Your Resume in the Prep Tab First
The only thing Mock Interview takes from the Prep tab is your uploaded resume. Make sure you've uploaded it there before starting. Everything else — Company Name, Position, and Job Description — is entered directly here in the Mock Interview tab for each session, so you can target a different role or company every time without touching the Prep tab.

Use Earphones
The virtual interviewer speaks the questions aloud. If you don't use earphones, the microphone will pick up the spoken question and type it into your answer box. Always use earphones or headphones for mock sessions.

Start & Answer Questions
Click Start Mock Interview. A set of questions loads and the virtual interviewer introduces each one. Answer by typing or clicking the 🎤 mic. A countdown timer keeps you on pace. For coding questions, a built-in code editor appears — select your language and write your solution directly.

Download Your PDF Report
After the session ends, click Download Report or View Report. The PDF includes every question, your answer, AI feedback, and an overall score. Review it carefully to identify patterns — recurring weak areas need targeted practice in the Interview tab.
💡 Pro Tip: Run a mock interview at least 2–3 times for the same role. Your first attempt will feel awkward — that's normal. By the third attempt your answers will be significantly sharper. Since the Mock Interview tab has its own Company/Position/JD fields, you can freely switch target companies between sessions without updating the Prep tab — just make sure your resume there stays current.

Custom Models Tab
Build a tailored AI interviewer for any company, role, or domain
A Custom Model is a configured AI persona — you set the company, role, interview style, and domain focus. Once created, it appears in the Interview tab's model dropdown so you can practise against it repeatedly.
➕ Create: Click Create Custom Model from any tab. Give it a name (e.g. "Google SWE L5"), choose the base AI model, set the system prompt to describe the interview style, and save.
🔄 Use: Switch to the Interview tab, open the model dropdown, and select your custom model. All questions in that session will follow the persona you defined.
✏️ Edit / 🗑️ Delete: Go to the Custom Models tab to manage saved models. You can update the system prompt or delete models you no longer need.
💡 Pro Tip: Create one model per company you're targeting. Include specific details in the system prompt like the company's engineering culture, known interview formats (e.g. STAR for behavioural, LeetCode medium for coding), and the exact role level.

📈 Score Trend Chart: Shows your average score across sessions over time. An upward trend confirms your practice is working. If the trend is flat or declining, switch topics or try a different model.
🥧 Question Type Performance: Breaks down your scores by question category — behavioural, technical, system design, coding, etc. The category with the lowest score is where to focus your next practice sessions.
💡 Pro Tip: Check analytics after every 3–5 sessions. Don't practise randomly — let the data tell you which question type needs the most attention.

Build or enhance your resume with AI assistance
📤 Upload an existing resume to have AI suggest improvements to each section, or start from scratch by filling in each field manually.
✨ Use AI buttons appear next to each section (Summary, Skills, Education, Experience). Click them to get AI-generated content tailored to your role — then edit to match your actual experience.
💾 Save multiple versions — create a version for each company you're applying to. Each version can be tweaked to emphasise different skills that match the specific job description.
💡 Pro Tip: Once your resume is polished here, go back to the Prep tab and re-upload it so the Interview and Mock Interview modes use the latest version.
